Lion dance was once, a banned activity

During the early days even ever since the Ching Dynasty, lion dance has been misused as a fighting and rebelling props. Besides that, many kungfu/martial arts school fight between each other to show their power and to proof that who’s school is more stronger. As we know during the early days of China or even in today, there is so many different style and school for kungfu/martial arts practitioners. Later then, in the modern days when there is not so much focus on martial arts school, lion dance is been used as a different symbolization, which is the different group of “Gangsters”. In the Chinese community, gangsters fight and conquer certain area of their own and that particular area belongs to them. Any outsiders who come into that area, is looking for trouble. That is why lion dance during those days also happens to have their own territory. Any unexpected lion dancers who step into territory that does not belong to them will invite a group fight. So you must be asking why those people still go to the territory that does not belongs to them and invite the fight? Answer is simple “Challenge” to challenge other group and conquer their territory. I belief this fights among school and troups happen in every where around the world.

One of 2 most popular country that has been ban against lion dance for political issue is Malaysia and Indonesia. Malaysia has a name of “The Country of Lion Kings” and Indonesia today is also one of the most popular lion dancing country that act pretty active in the lion dance community. But behind all these success, there is always a sad story to tell.
