1965 During the change From President Sukarno to President Suharto, Anti Chinese happen in Indonesia, anything that has to do with Chinese no matter in language, culture, speaking, writing, or activity such as Chinese new year was all banned. Many Chinese had left Indonesia at that time. During that period any lion dance performance take place will be consider a crime that going against the law. It was Banned for almost 30 years. Chinese community only started to gain back their colorful style of living when it reaches October 1999. As the Indonesian President change again from Suharto to President Abdurrahman Wahid Chinese New Year is now again recognized as a national festival and lion dance gain back it life here in Indonesia
